The government will fully absorb the electricity bills of the poorest of the poor – that is – for all lifeline consumers or persons who consume 0 – 50 Kw/h of power a month for the next three months to ease their burden following the partial lockdown of some parts of the country to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
In addition, the government will absorb 50% of the cost of electricity for all other consumers, residential and commercial.
President Akufo-Addo made the announcement in his 6th address to the nation on the coronavirus situation in Ghana.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s COVID-19 cases have risen to 378.
Six persons have lost their lives, two are in critical condition while four have fully recovered.
To prevent further spread, the government has extended the partial lockdown in Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Kumasi by one additional week.
